WHY I BUILT PROGADGETPICKS
Smart home technology improves at a pace that makes buying decisions genuinely difficult. Every few months, a new sensor, a new AI claim, a new connectivity standard. Most of what you read about these products is written by people summarizing spec sheets without understanding what the specs mean in practice.
I can read those spec sheets differently because of where I’ve spent my career. I worked at Nokia Mobile Phones for 15 years across six global roles — product marketing, sales operations, corporate strategy, and business development across Europe, China, and Asia Pacific. I evaluated hundreds of technology products and partnerships, managed roadmap sessions with operators like Vodafone, AT&T, and China Mobile, and launched 50+ products internationally. After Nokia Mobile Phones, I founded a robotics startup with IBM Watson and Intel partnerships. I currently write on AI simulation, multi-sensor fusion, and synthetic data for a defense technology company — 30+ published technical articles covering the sensor architectures (LiDAR, RADAR, cameras, infrared) that also happen to be inside the smart home products you’re researching.
But credentials alone don’t help you pick the right robot vacuum.
WHAT I ACTUALLY DO HERE
Technology keeps improving, and it will only accelerate with AI. What I try to do is freeze a snapshot of what’s currently offered in each product category and evaluate that set — choosing the best products for specific use cases and ranking them based on what actually matters in the specs.
When you buy a smart home product, that’s an investment of two years or more before it gets upgraded. It means the product needs to do its job well, and if it connects to other technology in your home, that decision should hold up over time. I help with that by simplifying the technology, pulling out the features that matter, and giving you an honest read on whether a product will play well with what you already have.
Interoperability is a particular focus. Getting different smart home brands and standards to work together is complicated — genuinely challenging even for technically skilled people. But the payoff when it works is significant, and most review sites skip this entirely because it’s harder to write about than individual product specs.
WHAT YOU WON’T FIND HERE
Hype language. Vague superlatives. Reviews that read like rewritten press releases. Every product in every ranking gets an honest con. The top-ranked product in each roundup earns its position with specific technical reasons, not “best overall” hand-waving.
ProGadgetPicks is permanently ad-free. No display ads, no pop-ups, no autoplay video. The site earns revenue through affiliate commissions when you purchase a product through our links. You pay the same price either way. The ad-free decision is permanent and deliberate — I want nothing between you and the information you came for.
New product rankings publish every week. Subscribe to the email list or follow on YouTube for video breakdowns of the rankings.
